Don’t miss the Hohensalzburg castle, the landmark of Salzburg! This is the largest and best preserved castle in Europe, hence the most popular tourist attraction in Austria. Nowadays, the great composer’s house is converted to a charming museum and is located in Getreidigasse 9, the most commercial street of Salzburg with typical tall and narrow houses and romantic courtyards. In the heart of the Old City at the left shore of the Salzach river is the Residenzplatz, one of the largest squares of Salzburg filled with many attractions. The central point of Residenzplatz is Residenzbrunnen, the most impressive baroque fountain, a masterpiece of marble, which was constructed by an Italian sculptor in 1661. Chill out at the countless cafes or continue your tour to the Princely Residence, a magnificent early baroque building with splendid halls and a gallery featuring European paintings from the 16th to 19th century.
Walk along the Universitatsplatz to Getreidegasse and admire the old commercial district with houses dated from the 15th to the 18th century.
