RENT A CAR IN LAUSANNE

A lovely route is Geneva - Lausanne. Take your rented car (booked via Globocars.com) and hit the road through the A1 motorway, near the Lake Leman. Between small villages and castles reaches Lausanne which is considered the most beautiful city in Switzerland. You can organize a day trip or stay overnight in the city in order to explore the neighboring areas. Distance by road, from Geneva to Lausanne is about 60 kilometers (37 miles) approximately 45 minutes. There are enough parking spaces around the perimeter of the city, where you can leave the car and take public transport to the city center.

If you want to stay at night, most hotels have free parking to leave your car. Explore the beautiful old town of Lausanne. If you like walking start your ride from the train station and following the scenic street Petit-Chêne you will end up in the square Place St. Franc. Otherwise you can reach the Old Town by metro by line 2 to the Flon. Old city apart from gorgeous and picturesque is full of points of interest. A main attraction is the Notre Dame Cathedral, which is visible from almost everywhere. Constructed in the 12th century and is particularly impressive. If you climb the tower, the view is spectacular. Interesting museums are the Palais de Rumine that includes five different museums, from fine arts to natural history and the city's History Museum. Plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants and clubs are located in the square Place Central where it borders the old city with the Flon district. Flon area is the trendy district of Lausanne.

Prior to depart Lausanne you must visit the lakeside Ouchy district. You can get in there either by car (parking spaces along Rhodanie Avenue) or taking the subway line 2. The area is filled with charming cafes and restaurants while nearby is Olympic and Elysee Museum.

Lavaux – Vevey – Montreux

The coast between city of Lausanne and Vevey, named Lavaux it’s famous for the innumerable beauties and its vineyards (which are cultural heritage by UNESCO). Leaving Lausanne follow the A9 highway to Lavaux, Vevey and Montreux. The motorway leads to the ski resorts in the Rhone Valley in Valais (Wallis). An incredible route is via the main road in Lavaux to the exit Chexbres A9 Autobahn, down to Lake Geneva. The road passes between vineyards, overlooking a magnificent landscape without any need to leave your vehicle. Driving time with the output of Chexbres highway is about 25 minutes (18.6 km) from Lausanne. If you want to get of the vehicle and view closer the lake, parking spaces are available from the side of the road. Visit one of the numerous wine cellars such as Domaine Croix Duplex in Grandvaux and tasting the amazing local Chasselas wines. Walk up and down the lake in Cully and admire the picturesque streets, the beautiful, traditional houses and the tranquility of the landscape.

On the border of Lavaux, is Vevey, a small town which is going to amazed you. In Vevey lived the famous illuminator Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Charlie Chaplin (the famous Charlotte) after leaving the US. Do not forget to visit the chocolaterie «Poyet», which has exclusive rights to create amazing chocolate creations in the shoe, shape of the great comic. A statue dedicated to Charlie Chaplin is located on the lakeshore. Vevey is a lakeside village with stunning view of the Alpine, called “Pearl of the Swiss Riviera”.

Seventeen minutes eastern from Vevey (7.1 km) through the A9 motorway, you will find Montreux, particularly popular resort in the circles of the international jet set. In the center of the village there is   Freddie Mercury’s statue, the singer of «Queen», who was recording very often chores in Mountain Studios. Main attraction is considered the Chillon castle, built on a rock in the lake. Since the 18th century, the castle attracted the romantic writers and poets global, such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Alexander Dumas, Gustavo Flaubert and the Lord Byron. Today, the monument welcomes more than 300,000 visitors per year. Thanks to renovations, is in excellent condition and helps greatly in understanding and acquaintance with feudal architecture.
